HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-046 Tahoma Cemetery - additional gravesites development ORDINANCE NO. 2003- 46 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2003 budget for the City of Yakima; and making an appropriation of $49,500 in the 144 - Cemetery Fund for expenditure during 2003 to provide for development of new gravesites at Tahoma Cemetery. WHEREAS, the amount of $49,500 must be appropriated within the 144 - Cemetery Fund for expenditure during 2003 to provide for development of new gravesites at Tahoma Cemery, and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2003 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance would be required; and the City Council finds that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. The amount of $49,500 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 144 - Cemetery Fund to account number 144- 144 -225- 0000 - 594.36- 630 as a 2003 appropriation. Section 2. This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter. In addition, this resolution approved the pre -sale of up to 200 graves in the new development to the Japanese Bochi Association of Yakima Valley with a portion of those proceeds from the sale to be used to fund the development. The Japanese Bochi Association paid the City $105,300 on March 21, 2003 for 195 grave sites. These dollars included the sale of the lots plus Endowment Care. Phase 1 Development is almost complete. It includes grading, irrigation, planting turf and corner markers. Legal descriptions have been developed and recorded. This request is for an expenditure appropriation of $49,500 for development at Tahoma Cemetery. (The revenue estimate for Lot & Niche Sales will also be increased by the same amount.)
