AN ORDINANCE amending the 2004 budget for the City of Yakima, and making an
appropnation of $90,000 in the 131 -Parks and Recreation Fund for
expenditure during 2004
WHEREAS, the amount of $90,000 must be appropnated within the 131 Parks and
Recreation Fund for expenditure during 2004, and
WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2004 budget it could not reasonably
have been foreseen that the appropnation provided for by this ordinance would be required,
and the City Council finds that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW
35 33 091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make the appropnation herein
provided, now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. The amount of $25,000 is hereby appropnated from the Unappropnated
Fund Balance in the 131 -- Parks and Recreation Fund to account number 131 424 P120
576 20 410 and $65,000 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropnated Fund Balance in
131 - Parks and Recreation Fund to account number 131 425 P182 555 73 410
Section 2 This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect
immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City
Charter

and Recreation Budget

SUMMARY EXPLANATION
Staff respectfully requests City Council approval of the attached Appropriation
Ordinance amending the 2004 Parks and Recreation Budget to cover unanticipated
operational expenses for Franklin Pool and the Senior Center
The boiler at Franklin Pool needed replacement at a cost of $25,000 Staff did not
anticipate this expense during the adoption of the 2004 Parks and Recreation
Budget.
Demand for the Tour Program at the new Harman Center has increased and
therefore an appropriation of $65,000 is needed This expense is offset by revenues
of an equal amount.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff respectfully recommends that Council
authorize the First Reading of the appropriation ordinance by title only at the
September 7, 2004 meeting, and then pass the appropriation ordinance after the
Second Reading at the September 21, 2004 meeting.
