HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-064 Removal Provisions for Board & Commission Members 1 ORDINANCE NO 2005 - 64 AN ORDINANCE relating to administration, adding chapter 1 30 010 as a new chapter to Title 1 of the Yakima Municipal Code to establish a procedure by which members of city council boards, committees and commissions may be removed when no specific removal provision is provided by other ordinance provision BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA Section 1 Chapter 1 30 010 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby added to read as follows "1 30 010 Removal of members of city boards, committees and commissions Appointees and members of any city council- enacted boards, committees and commissions that are (1) not specifically authorized by an ordinance, or (2) that are authorized by a specific ordinance that does not include a member termination / removal provision, may be removed from said board, committee or commission at any time for any reason, by the city council Section 2 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect 30 days after its passage, approval, and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, signed and approved this 1st day of November ,2005 ATTEST Paul P George, Mayor K aA ,4 I&4 City Clerk Publication Date 11- 4-2005 Effective Date 12-4 -2005 (jc)ord /city board member removal /page 1 oft BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT Item No *- 19 For Meeting Of November 1, 2005 ITEM TITLE: An ordinance relating to administration, providing a procedure for removal of city council appointed board, commission and committee members where no specific removal provision is otherwise provided in the authorization of city council enacted boards, committees and commissions, and enacting, as a new chapter, chapter 1 30 010 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code SUBMITTED BY: Jeff Cutter, Assistant City Attorney CONTACT PERSON /TELEPHONE: Jeff Cutter, 575 -6033 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Yakima City Council authorizes many boards, committees and commissions to serve the purposes of city government. Some of the boards, committees and commissions are authorized by ordnance and some are not. Of those authorized by ordinance, in some cases the ordinance provides a procedure for removal of members and in some cases the issue of removal is not addressed Those boards, committees and commissions that are not authorized by ordinance do not have specific member - removal provisions The proposed ordinance will provide the City Council with a procedure by which members may be removed from city boards, committees and commissions when no specific procedure was stated in the enactment of said board, committee or commission There is no economic impact associated with enactment of this ordinance Resolution Ordinance X Contract Other(Specify) Contract Mail to (name and address) Phone Funding Source APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL. ity Manager STAFF RECOMMENDATION.
