HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-088 Public Safety Communications Equipment Purchase ORDINANCE NO 2005 - -88 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2005 budget for the City of Yakima, and making an appropriation of $95,001 within the 332 —Fire Capital Fund for expenditure during 2005 to purchase public safety communications equipment. WHEREAS, the amount of $95,001 has been awarded as a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to be passed through the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management, thereby resulting in the need to appropriate this amount of $95,001 within the 332 —Fire Capital Fund to purchase public safety communications equipment; and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2005 budget the revenue funds for this project were not known; and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35 33 091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA. Wayne Wantland, 575 -6048 SUMMARY EXPLANATION The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management has been awarded $136,056 95 from the fiscal year 2004 Department of Homeland Security, Equipment Grant. The City's share of this total award is $95,000 92 The City will be using these funds to make critical enhancements to the west side of Yakima by expanding both the police and fire communications network into that area. This will provide more secure and reliable coverage and enhanced interoperability The attached appropriation ordinance authorizes an increase in both the equipment expenditure ling and the intergovemmental (grant) revenue account, resulting in a balanced appropriation —i e Fire Capital reserves are not affected by this transaction.
