Wayne Wantland, 575 -6048 SUMMARY EXPLANATION The Yakima County of Emergency Management has recently been awarded grants from the Washington State Patrol for the Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program 2004, of $199,700 The City's share of this total award is $38,299 In addition, a grant that we had received from the Department of Homeland Security through Yakima County Emergency Management, was originally budgeted at $95,000 The total grant was increased, and the City's allocation is now $147,500, or an increase of $52,500 Both of these grants are for the purpose of enhancing interoperable communications (i.e communications among neighboring public safety agencies), and will assist the City in our regional effort to improve public safety for the citizens. These particular funds will be used to purchase radios, an interface to connect different radio systems, and enhancements to our dispatching equipment to improve officer and public safety The attached appropriation ordinance authorizes an increase in both the equipment expenditure line and intergovemmental (grant) revenue accounts in the total amount of $90,799 resulting in a balanced appropriation —i e Fire Capital reserves are not affected by this transaction.
