AN ORDINANCE relating to administration, amending Chapter 1 30 of the City of Yakima
Municipal Code to add a chapter title and section headings; to establish
a standardized term length for members appointed by city council to City
of Yakima boards, committees or commissions for which no other
specific statutory or municipal code provision pre -empts the general term
length restriction set forth herein; and adding City of Yakima Municipal
Code section 1 30 020 as a new section.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1 Chapter 1 30 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended
to add a chapter title and section designations, to read as follows
"Chapter 1 30
CITY COUNCIL ENACTED BOARDS, COMMITTEES AND COMMISSIONS
GENERAL PROVISIONS
Sections.
1 30.010 Removal of members of city boards, committees and commissions.
1 30.020 Term lengths for members of city council enacted boards,
committees and commissions."
Section 2. Section 1 30 020 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby added
as a new section to Chapter 1 30 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code, to read as follows
"1 30.020 Standard term length for city council appointed members of boards,
committees and commissions.
A term length of four years is hereby imposed for all members of city council enacted
boards, committees and commissions not otherwise regulated by statute or municipal code
providing a different term length for a particular board, committee or commission. The four
year term length shall apply to all current and future board, committee and commission
members, and with respect to existing members, shall be considered to have applied from the
first day of the board, committee or commission member's current term.
For any board, committee or commission member currently serving a term that exceeds
the four year term length hereby imposed as of the effective date of this ordinance, that
member shall so notify the board, committee or commission chair person in order to initiate the
process of reappointment or replacement for that position."
Section 3 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect 30 days after its passage,

SUMMARY EXPLANATION
Following the July 25, 2006 City Council Study Session, legal staff has worked with
the Council Rules and Procedures Committee, Council Members Bonlender, Johnson
and McClure to craft legislation consistent with Council direction This was a task
assigned to the Council Rules and Procedures Committee
Attached is an ordinance amending portions of chapter 1 30 of the City of Yakima
Municipal Code setting a standard term length of 4 years for all members of city
council enacted boards, committees, or commissions not otherwise regulated by
statute or municipal code
