AN ORDINANCE amending the 2006 budget for the City of Yakima; and
making appropriations of $3,000 within the 000 - General
Fund -Fire Department for expenditure during 2006 to
purchase grant- funded fire prevention education equipment.
WHEREAS, the amount of $3,000 must be appropriated within the 000 -
General Fund -Fire Department for expenditure during 2006 to purchase grant - funded
Fire Safety Puppetry Program "Safety Troupe" supplies and equipment, and
WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2006 budget it could not
reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance
would be required; and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type
contemplated by RCW 35 33 091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make
the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. The amount of $3,000 is hereby appropriated from the
Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 000 - General Fund to the following accounts.
Resources:
Interlocal Grant - Yakama Nation - 000 - 000 -125 -0000- 33707 -ILG — $3,000
Expenditures
Public Education Supplies 000 032 - 125 - 0000 - 52240 - 31 P — $3,000
Section 2. This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect
immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the
City Charter

ITEM TITLE. An Ordinance Amending the 2006 Budget in the Fire Department to Purchase
Grant - funded Fire Safety Puppetry Program "Safety Troupe" equipment and
supplies.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION
The Yakama Nation has established the Charitable Donation Committee to provide financial
assistance to nonprofit charitable organizations and other agencies or organizations that
renders service out in the community
In March, the Yakima Fire Department Reserves submitted a grant application in the amount of
$3,000 for the purpose of purchasing equipment and supplies needed to start -up the Fire Safety
Puppetry Program "Safety Troupe" The Reserves's application was presented to and approved
by the Yakama Nation's "Charitable Donation Committee" in May This grant will be utilized to
purchase a "Sparky the Fire Dog Costume ", Fire Safety Puppets, Amplifier and Generator
system and accessories. Delivery of this program will be managed by the Yakima Fire
Department Reserves.
Staff respectfully requests that Council approve the attached ordinance, which authorizes an
appropriation of $3,000 in the Fire Department budget to be funded 100% by a grant from the
Yakama Nation.
