SUMMARY EXPLANATION
In December 2006 the Yakima Fire Department received a donation of $10,000 00 from a
citizen in memory of her husband, a retired Seattle police officer The donation was made in
gratitude for the department providing emergency medical assistance to her husband on
several occasions during his illness
The Yakima Fire Department desires to use the funds to purchase "Public Access
Defibrillators " These units will be placed throughout the city wherever a large number of
citizens congregate. We believe the funds should be used for equipment that best serves the
citizens of Yakima and that will be in service for several years.
Staff respectfully requests that Council approve the attached ordinance, which authorizes an
appropriation of $10,000 in the Fire Capital budget to be funded 100% by a citizen donation.
