SUMMARY EXPLANATION
In October of 2006, the fire Department suffered a total loss of a command vehicle due to fire The
cause was determined to be electrical in nature This vehicle is the first line apparatus of the
Battalion Chief for emergency responses The Fire Department has attempted to work around the
Toss of this vehicle However, it is a critical component of the Fire response, and the Fire command
staff is respectfully requesting the replacement at this time The Department's long term plans
indicated replacing this vehicle in 2009 The Department apparatus replacement schedule would
be amended to reflect an earlier purchase
The state bid for the vehicle is about $28,000 The attached appropriation would increase the Fire
Capital Fund budget by $30,000 to cover the cost to purchase and equip this vehicle The cash
balance in the Fire Capital Fund at the end of 2007, after this purchase, is estimated to be about
$150,000
