HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-017 Fire Department Command Vehicle; Budget Amendment and Appropriations ORDINANCE NO 2007 -- 17 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2007 budget for the City of Yakima, and making an appropriation of $30,000 within the 332 —Fire Capital Fund for expenditure during 2007 to provide for replacement of a Fire Department command vehicle WHEREAS, the 332 —Fire Capital Fund contains Unappropriated Fund Balance available for appropriation and expenditure during 2007 in the amount of $30,000 to provide for replacement of a Fire Department command vehicle, and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2007 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance would be required; and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35 33 091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA. Section 1. Dennis Mayo, 575 -6060 SUMMARY EXPLANATION In October of 2006, the fire Department suffered a total loss of a command vehicle due to fire The cause was determined to be electrical in nature This vehicle is the first line apparatus of the Battalion Chief for emergency responses The Fire Department has attempted to work around the Toss of this vehicle However, it is a critical component of the Fire response, and the Fire command staff is respectfully requesting the replacement at this time The Department's long term plans indicated replacing this vehicle in 2009 The Department apparatus replacement schedule would be amended to reflect an earlier purchase The state bid for the vehicle is about $28,000 The attached appropriation would increase the Fire Capital Fund budget by $30,000 to cover the cost to purchase and equip this vehicle The cash balance in the Fire Capital Fund at the end of 2007, after this purchase, is estimated to be about $150,000 Resolution X Ordinance Contract Other (Specify) FUNDING SOURCE Fire Capital Fund APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL. �� City Manager STAFF RECOMMENDATION Read Ordinance by title only at the March 20, 2007 meeting Pass ordinance after the second reading at the April 3, 2007 meeting BOARD /COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION COUNCIL ACTION.
