HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-030 KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detectors; Budget Amendment and Appropriations • ORDINANCE NO. 2007- 30 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2007 budget for the City of Yakima, and making appropriations of $3,000 within the 000 - General Fund - Fire Department for expenditure during 2007 to purchase grant - funded "KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detectors." WHEREAS, the amount of $3,000 must be appropriated within the 000 - General Fund - Fire Department for expenditure during 2007 to purchase grant - funded "KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detectors ", and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2007 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance would be required, and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best interest of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. The amount of $3,000 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 000 - General Fund to the following accounts: Resources: Interlocal Grant - Yakima Nation - 000.000 125.0000.33707.ILG - -- $3,000 00 Expenditures: Public Education Supplies - 000.032.125.0000.52240.31P - -- $3,000.00 Section 2. Charhe Hines, 575 -6079 SUMMARY EXPLANATION The Yakama Nation has established the Chantable Donation Committee to provide financial assistance to nonprofit chantable organizations and other agencies or organizations that render service out in the community In March, the Yakima Fire Department Reserves submitted a grant application in the amount of $3,000 for the purchase of "KidSmart Vocal Smoke Detectors" to be donated to families who do not have smoke detectors in their residence and cannot afford to purchase one. The Reserves' application was presented to and approved by the Yakama Nation's "Charitable Donation Committee" in May The grant momes will be used to purchase 360 smoke detector units. Staff respectfully requests that Council approve the attached ordinance, which authorizes an appropriation of $3,000 in the Fire Department budget to be funded 100% by a grant from the Yakama Nation.
