HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-045 Expanded Transit Service to Union Gap; Budget Amendment and Appropriations ORDINANCE NO 2007 -45 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2007 budget for the City of Yakima, and making an appropriation of $178,535 within the 462— Transit Operating Fund for expenditure during 2007 to extend transit service to the city of Union Gap WHEREAS, the amount of $178,535 has been awarded as a grant from the Congestion Mitigation for Air Quality (CMAQ) for a six -month period commencing July 1, 2007, to extend transit service to the city of Union Gap, thereby resulting in the need to appropriate an amount of $178,535 within the 462— Transit Operating Fund for the 2007 budget year; and - WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2007 budget the revenue funds for this project were not known, and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35 33 091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA. Section 1. Ken Mehin /576 -6415 SUMMARY EXPLANATION The City has obtained a grant from the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program to conduct a 6 -month pilot program to provide public transportation /transit service to the city of Union Gap This pilot program will educate and expose the citizens of Union Gap to full Transit service prior to their vote this November on a sales tax ballot measure City Council had already authorized the execution of an interlocal agreement with the City of Union Gap (June 19, 2007) The total grant award for the 6 -month period is $178,535 A budget amendment is necessary to reflect this new expense in the Transit budget for the 6 -month duration of the program The attached appropriation ordinance incorporates the revenue from this grant corresponding to expenditures for additional salary, fuel, & maintenance costs.
