Mill District Update — report from Landau Associates re geotechnical and alignment study
Michael Morales reported that Yakima County approved the City's $500,000 SIED loan
request for engineering design of roads and utilities to serve the redevelopment of the mill
district. The selection process for the design engineer will occur over the next few months
In the mean time, a piece of information that will benefit the design engineer is a study that
was recently completed by Landau Associates to determine the geotechnical issues for the
frastructure of the first phase of development A separate study (conducted by SLR) will
determine the full integration of the landfill in the development, but Landau considered the
landfill site and other factors when trying to determine the best layout for roads and utilities
within the site
Mr Pischer distributed a report that contained 15 -16 separate issues and briefly reviewed
several of them He stated that Landau's conclusion was that the design team can
accomplish any alignment from an engineering and technical point of view He noted that
integration of the landfill control measures and the economics of the various measures will
be important considerations
Morales explained that the Landau and SLR studies will be folded into the total
infrastructure design and that the DOT / YVCOG traffic analysis will also come into play
The Committee will be kept up to date as information becomes available
