• ORDINANCE NO 93- 32
AN ORDINANCE relating to public services and utilities, adjusting water service
charges, amending Sections 7 68 250, 7 68 251, 7 68 252, 7 68.255, and
7 68.282, all of the City of Yakima Municipal Code.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA.
Section 1 Section 7 68 250 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"7 68 250 Water Service Charges A. Commencing August 9, 1993,
through June 30, 1994, the charge for domestic water supplied shall consist of
a ready -to -serve charge and a charge for water consumed, as follows.
Ready -to -serve charges. One -Month Two -Month

D The "one -month period" is defined as any period of time from one day
up to and including one month and fourteen days, and the "two -month period"
is defined as any period of time from one month and fifteen days to two months
and fourteen days.
Minimum ready -to -serve and consumption charges for water supplied
outside the city shall be computed by multiplying the applicable rate above by
one and one -half Provided, however, that within the area described on the
map found in Section 7 68 035 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code, the ready -
to -serve charge and charge for water consumed shall not be subject to any
surcharge set out in this subsection "

• Section 2 Section 7 68 251 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows
"7 68 251 Bulk rate for municipal purposes
A. The charge for domestic water used by the city of Yakima for filling
swimming pools or wading pools in the city parks and for all city irrigation
purposes, and the charge for all domestic water used for irrigation purposes
by any municipal corporation which by agreement with the city makes
playgrounds or recreational areas available for city park and recreation use
shall be as follows.
1 Commencing August 9, 1993, through June 30, 1994
First 5,000 cu. ft 24 per 100 cu. ft
Over 5,000 cu ft. 13 per 100 cu. ft.
2 Commencing July 1, 1994, through August 8, 1998
First 5,000 cu ft 27 per 100 cu ft.
Over 5,000 cu ft 14 per 100 cu. ft
3 Commencing August 9, 1998, and thereafter
First 5,000 cu. ft 26 per 100 cu ft
Over 5,000 cu. ft 13 per 100 cu ft.
B Commencing January 17, 1986, the charge for water supplied through fire
hydrants, when the water is used by either a city department or a private
person for a public improvement project authorized by the city, shall be based
on a flat rate charge of eight cents per one hundred cubic feet No charge
shall be made for water supplied through fire hydrants when the water is used
for fire suppression or for maintenance and operation purposes by city
departments."
Section 3 Section 7 68 252 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows.
"7 68 252 Irrigation rate on domestic water Domestic water may
be delivered to consumers during the irrigation season at a special irrigation
rate under the following conditions
1 In order to secure the irrigation rate, application must be made to the utility
accounts division by the consumer, who will certify that the domestic water
delivered under said rate will be used for irrigation purposes on property not
adequately served by separate irrigation systems.
2 Commencing August 9, 1993, the charge for such water supplied shall be
computed as follows An amount equal to the maximum water meter reading
taken during the previous non - irrigation season shall be charged under the

regular domestic water rates All water used on premises inside the City limits

in excess of such maximum usage during the previous non- irrigation season at

the below given "A" rate, and all water used on premises outside the City limits
in excess of such maximum usage during the previous non - irrigation season
shall be charged during the irrigation season at the below -given "B" rate,
provided, the rate for domestic water consumed by the State of Washington or
any agency thereof, or any municipal corporation of a classification other
than that charging the bulk rate as provided by Subsection A of Section
7 68 251 of this Chapter, and used exclusively for irrigation purposes on
property owned or occupied by such consumers shall be at the below -given "C"
rate, regardless of whether the property served is situated within or without
the corporate limits of the City of Yakima.
"A" Rate. Commencing August 9, 1993, through June 30, 1994
$ 24 per one hundred cubic feet, commencing July 1, 1994, through
August 8, 1998 $ 27 per one hundred cubic feet; commencing August 9,
1998 and thereafter $ 26 per one hundred cubic feet.
"B" Rate. Commencing August 9, 1993, through June 30, 1994 $ 28
per one hundred cubic feet, commencing July 1, 1994, and thereafter
$ 31 per one hundred cubic feet.
"C" Rate: Commencing August 9, 1993, through June 30, 1994 $ 24
per one hundred cubic feet; commencing July 1, 1994, through August 8,
1998 $ 27 per one hundred cubic feet, commencing August 9, 1998 and
thereafter $ 26 per one hundred cubic feet
3 For the purpose of this section, the irrigation rate Nvi11 commence at the
regular water meter reading during the months of February or March, as the
case may be for any particular consumer; and will terminate at the regular
water meter reading during the months of October or November, as the case
may be for any particular consumer In the event an application is made
during the irrigation season for the irrigation rate, the irrigation rate will
commence at the next regular meter reading after the time of such
application
4 The sewerage service charge provided for in Chapter 7 60 shall not apply to
the indicated consumption of water billed at the irrigation rate
5 Consumers who have installed domestic water service exclusively for
irrigation use will be billed at the irrigation rate without regard to dates of
commencement or termination of service, subject only to the minimum
billings provided for in Section 7 68 255 "
Section 4 Section 7 68 255 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows
"7 68 255 Minimum service charges A. Commencing August 9,
1993, through June 30, 1994, minimum charges for domestic water supplied for
the several sizes of meters shall be as follows.

amended to read as follows.

D The inside diameter of the pipe leading to a fire hydrant shall
determine the service charge Any fire hydrant installed and maintained by
the City outside of City limits will be billed as a fire service, which charge shall
be terminated at such time as the responsible consumer's property is annexed

• Section 6 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect 30 days after its
passage, approval, and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter
