AN ORDINANCE amending the 1996 budget for the City of Yakima, and
making an appropriation of $316,667 in the Public
Safety Communications Fund for expenditure during
1996 to provide for public safety communications and
911 Calltaking Services.
WHEREAS, the amount of $316,667 must be appropriated within the
Public Safety Communications Fund in order to provide for public safety
communications and 911 Calltaking Services, and
WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 1996 budget it could not
reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this
ordinance would be required, and the City Council finds that an emergency
exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35 33 091 and that it is in the best
interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Appropriations are hereby made, for expenditure during
1996, from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the Public Safety
• Communications Fund to the various accounts and in the various amounts, and
for the various specific purposes, all as specified in the Schedule attached
hereto and incorporated herein
Section 2. This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take
effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter

SUMMARY EXPLANATION
Council approved a Resolution authorizing the Yakima County Intergovernmental
9 -1 -1- Agreement, and 9 -1 -1 Support Services Agreement at the March 19, 1996
meeting In order to accomplish the City's Financial /Budget portion of the
Agreement, it is necessary to create a new fund, titled "Public Safety
Communications Fund ", and to establish a budget for this fund
• The first Ordinance establishes the Public Safety Communications Fund The
second Ordinance establishes the 1996 Budget assuming operations will begin
July 1, 1996 Therefore, only 50% of the budget presented in the March
Resolution and report is included in this Appropriation Ordinance Additionally,
some of the budget line items may vary slightly with more detailed calculations
