41, AN ORDINANCE Relating to city personnel; adopting a compensation plan
for city employees; amending Section 2.20.110 of the City
of Yakima Municipal Code; and declaring an emergency. ,

WHEREAS, the position of Yakima City Engineer has been vacant for
Ill approximately 7 months and attempts to recruit and hire a qualified per-
son for that job have been unsuccessful for the reason that qualified
prospective employees for that position have refused offers of
employment at the salary presently provided by city ordinance; and the
City Council is advised that a qualified person is presently available
to employ in that position at the salary provided in this ordinance; and
the City Council deems it to be imperative that the vacant position be
filled as quickly as possible, and the City Council further finds and

declares these existing circumstances to constitute , an emergency •
requiring that this ordinance become immediately effective, 'now,
therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:

Section 1. Section 2.20.110 of the City of Yakima Municipal .
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
• "2.20.110 CornpensationPlan. The following pay ranges, and .pay .
steps for the classes allocated to these pay ranges shall be in
full force and effect as of September 28, 1979. The following pay
rates shall constitute full compensation for those employees with a
work week of forty hours as set out in other sections of this code. .
Employees whose work week is less than forty hours shall be paid at
the rate which is in the same proportion to the rates • set out
herein that their work week bears to forty hours. The hourly rate •
4111 for those employees of the Fire Department whose work week exceeds
forty hours shall be computed according to the provisions of
Section 2.22.030 of this code.

Section 22. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare
of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby declared 4 1/ 0
to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter.
