AN ORDINANCE relating to public services and utilities; regulat-
ing the use of public sewers, drains and ditches;
prohibiting the deposit of certain wastes therein;
111- and amending Subsection 7.62.050 C of the City of
Yakima Municipal Code.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Subsection 7.62.050 C of the City of Yakima Muni-
cipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"7.62.050 Use of public sewers.
C. (1) No person shall discharge or cause to be discharged
any of the following described waters or waste to any public
sewers, storm drains or ditches:
1. Any gasoline, benzene, naptha, fuel oil, or other

flammable or explosive liquid, solid, or gas.
2. Any waters containing toxic or poisonous solids,
liquids, or gases in sufficient quantity, either
singly or by interaction with other wastes, to in-
jure or interfere with any waste treatment process,
constitute a hazard to humans or animals, create a
public nuisance, or create any hazard in the receiv-
ing waters of the wastewater treatment plant.
3. Any waters or wastes having a pH lower than 5.5 or
higher than 9.9, or having any other corrosive property
capable of causing damage or hazard to structures,
equipment, and personnel of the wastewater works.
4. Solid or viscous substances In quantities or of
such size capable of causing obstruction to the flow
in sewers, or other interference with the proper
operation of the wastewater facilities such as,
but not limited to, ashes, bones, rocks, gravel,
01/ cement, tile, ceramics, roots, cinders, sand, dirt,
mud, straw, shavings, metal, bark, cloth, tires,
boots, hoses, glass, rags, feathers, tar, plastics,
wood, unground garbage, whole blood, paunch manure,
fat, glue, bottles, grease, toys, combs, cosmetics,
hair and fleshings, entrails and paper dishes, paper
towels, paper bags, paper cups, milk containers,
etc., either whole or ground by garbage grinders;
provided, however, that only the paper portion of
disposable diapers may be discharged into the public
sewers.
(2) Septic tank or sewage treatment sludge accidentally
spilled shall be contained, pumped into a vehicle and transported
to the assigned disposal site; provided, any spilled materials
which pose an immediate danger to the public and cannot be
handled in some other manner may be discharged to storm or
sanitary sewers by the authority of the Director of Public
Works, a police officer, a fire marshal, or fire inspector
or firefighter, or other government officer or employee engaged
in public safety or emergency services, or who otherwise has
411 jurisdiction over the area where the spill occurs."
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided
by law and by the City Charter.
