1. Good of the Order, Additions to Agenda
a. Kelly Connaughton, Yakima Greenway Foundation presentation
b. Yakima Transit, Shirley Strader is out of town unable to present.
2. Approval of Minutes from August 14th meeting.
3. Mike Bastinelli and Sean Davido, Yakima Police Dept. Discuss this committee's
concerns of pedestrian, cyclist, and motorists' interactions, conflicts and safety.
Information presented:
a. School crosswalk safety.
b. The 40th Ave @ Chestnut crosswalk/RRFB safety focus.
c. Available YPD Social Medias: Facebook, Twitter, Insta gram, You Tube, Y -Pak,
Tuesday Tips, On Target, Lip Sink Video, PSA.
Mike & Sean would like to work jointly with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee.
Help formulate Public Service Announcement topics of interest; these would also be used with
above mentioned social media formats YPD utilizes.
Suggestion: The Bike/Pedestrian Committee create a subcommittee by interested persons to
work on topics (5) with Mike and Sean. Sean to present script format on pedestrian safety for
October 9th meeting. Subcommittee to create list of five topics.
a. Tuesday Tips- video format 2 minutes
b. PSA audio/video formats 30 seconds
c. On Target 5 minutes
1. Crosswalk Safety
2. Bicycle/Car interactions, Why cyclist do what they do, bicycles are legal means of
transportation, and Give'em 3 feet.
3. Distracted driving, walking, and cycling
4. Road conditions as weather changes for all users
5. Most vulnerable users of public space (streets)
4. Kelly Connaughton, Yakima Greenway Foundation Executive Director.
Presented information of collaborations with Yakima Humane Society, The Arboretum,
Cowiche Canyon Conservancy, and Yakima Parks Dept. The focus is trail etiquette
campaign to broaden awareness for all park and path users.
a. Appropriate interactions by all users, encouraging courtesy.
b. Shrub steppe right of way.
c. Leash use, control of animal companions and leash law enforcement.
d. Address interactions within congested areas.
e. Pit Bull Ban lifted on September 23rd
KeIIy was pleased to be invited and become part of our work to create, inform and educate
Yakima citizens as they move through our city streets, parks and trails.
5. Committee Membership Renewal. Neil encourages everyone to stay, as we now have
our "training wheels" off. Elissa Southward will be stepping down.
Joseph Calhoun reminds all to pick up application at the Clerk's Office and apply. Apply
soon as terms are expiring, this would facilitate a good start in January 2019.
6. High Incidence Streets. These streets were submitted to Brett by Officer Nielson at the
request of this advisory committee. Street safety would be enhanced with additional
signage and traffic calming infrastructure. Merge these into the TIP projects as they
arise.
7. Future Agenda Items and Good of the Order
a. Title 12 TIP 34th Ave from River road to Powerhouse.
b. RRFB additional signage is illegal per August meeting information.
c. Feedback from Bellingham consulting firm costs for Pedestrian Master Plan.
$50,000 consultation fee. Discussion of grant avenues leading to feasibility and
presentation to City Council.
d. Elissa conveys information she received from FTA for transit planning, $6.2
million dollar grant specific to pedestrian and other accesses to medical facilities
within transit service.
e. Transit Plan goes to city council for approval Sept. 18tH
8. Next meeting is October 9' at 10:00 AM.
