HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Minutes for Meeting cif February 24, 2016
I. CaII to Order
Commission Vice Chair Wahl called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M.

III. New Business
A. Voting on Chair and Vice Chair
Nancy Rayner made a motion to nominate Nancy Kenmotsu as Chair and Leslie Wahl as Vice
Chair. Karl Pasten Seconded the motion. Motion carried 4-0
B. Approval of January's Minutes
Nancy Rayner made a motion to accept January's meeting minutes. Karl Pasten seconded the
motion. Motion carried 4-0.
C. Update on DAHP Grant Process
Trevor gave a brief update on the DAHP grant application. Trevor explained that he has been
in contact with Spencer Howard from Artifacts. Artifact was going to begin their interviewing
process for the Historic Preservation Element of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan update.
Spencer has also indicated that he will be available and in attendance for the day of the
Comprehensive Plan open house to discuss the proposed Historic Preservation element.
IV. Other Business
A. General Discussion of Other Items Not on the Agenda
Leslie Wahl spoke about the annual tour of Rosedale. The property has been granted
special valuation and would need a commission member to inspect the property to ensure
the property has continued compliance with the agreement and statutory eligibility
requirements. Karl Pasten volunteered to inspect the property.
Leslie Wahl mentioned she would like to tour the new Hotel Mason.
Trevor Martin spoke about the First Baptist Church and that the application has been
forwarded on to the National Historic Register.

Nancy Rayner spoke about the Yakima Farmers Market and that the Commissions
attendance should be more throughout the summer so they can reach more people
throughout the entire summer and not just May.
Jeff Peters spoke about the William 0 Douglas heritage trail. He mentioned where the City
is in the process.
Staff spoke about getting new volunteers to serve on the Historic Preservation
Commission.
V. Citizen Participation
No citizens participated in the meeting.
VI. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:15 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting which will be
held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
