ORDINANCE NO. ©2 I 7 7 AN ORDINANCE relating to building codes; adopting by reference the National Electrical Code, 1978 Edition, of the National Fire Protection Association, Standard No. 70, and making amendments thereto; and amending Sections AMP 11.16.010 and 11.16.020 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code. WHEREAS, R.C.W. 35.21.180 authorizes cities and towns within the State of Washington to enact ordinances which adopt by reference compilations and codes relating to the construction of buildings, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima has heretofore examined and understands the scope and purpose of the regulations of the National Electrical Code, 1978 Edition, copyright 1978 by the National Fire Protection Association, Standard No. 70, and deems it in the best interests of the City of Yakima that such code, as .amended by this ordinance, be adopted as the Electrical Code of the City of Yakima, and WHEREAS, three copies of such National Electrical Code have heretofore been filed and are now on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Yakima for use and examination by the public, as required by law, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. Section 11.16.010 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "11.16.010 Adoption by reference of Electrical Code. The National Electrical Code, 1978 Edition, copyright 1978 by the National Fire Protection Association, Standard No. 70, of which not less than three copies each have been and now are on file in the office of the Yakima City Clerk, is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out in full herein 0 as the Electrical Code of the City of Yakima." Section 2. Section 11.16.020 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "11.16.020 Electrical wiring - -Fire zones. Require- ments of the Electrical Code adopted by this chapter shall be applicable to installations of fire protective signaling systems and communications systems, regardless of the loca- tion of the premises where such system installations are made; provided, except for installations of such fire pro - tective signaling systems and communications systems, all wiring in buildings or structures situated within the limits of Fire Zones 1 and 2, as designated and established by Chapter 10.08 of the City of Yakima Code as it now exists or may hereafter be amended, shall be installed in approved metallic raceways." Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.
