2. 2019 State Legislative Priorities Briefing
CO00uDiC8dVDS & Public Affairs Di[8CU][Randy B8eh|8r reported on the Cih/S St8Ua legislative
priorities including actively pursue, support and monitor. Senator Honeyford recommended the City
may want 03 investigate 8 fuel tax QD commercial airlines. Representative Chandler reported that
A8bi8 plans to convert the ToppeOiSh hospital to @ mental health facility.
Senator HoneYfD[d reported he is working On @ large water bill that would provide reliable funding for
water pr0|eCtS, s1or[OVV3ter, flood COntnJ!, water supply and culverts. He stated this will be OO 8
competitive basis with priority tO areas that have water plans such @S the Yakima River Basin Plan. He
is also working on a bill similar to those in [}naQnn and California to eliminate the change on daylight
savings time.
Representative Chandler is working OO judicial scrutiny and an oversight board for the Public
Defenders Association. City Manager Moore noted the City will spend $1.2 million OOindigent
defense in2O18 with only$8O'0OO coming from the state for support.
Representative Mosbrucker stated domestic violence and teen suicide prevention are some of her
biggest priorities, as well as pro business bills, seatbelts on school buses. Representative-Elect
Corry stated his focus will be on helping families in Eastern Washington as well as developing
business friendly ways to control health care costs.

11, 2018, at 6 p.m' afCity Hall in the Council Chambers. The motion carried by unanimous vote,
