AN ORDINANCE relating to local government administration; creating
a Park and Recreation Commission, specifying its
members and terms of office; enacting Chapter 1.35.,
"Park and Recreation Commission", consisting of Sec-
tions 1.35.010 and 1.35.020, as a. new chapter and new
sections of the City of Yakima Municipal Code; and
411 declaring an emergency.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Chapter 1.35., "Park and Recreation Commission",
consisting of sections 1.35.010 and 1.35.020, is hereby enacted as
a new chapter of the City of Yakima Municipal Code to read as follows:
"Chapter 1.35
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
1.35.010 Created--Members. There is hereby created a
Park and Recreation Commission to consist of seven members
who shall be appointed by the City Council and who shall
serve without compensation. The Director of Parks and Rec-

reation shall be an ex-officio member of and secretary of
such commission, but shall not be entitled to vote on any
matter voted on by the commission.
1.35.020 Terms of Office. Initial appointments of
commission members shall be effective on January 1, 1972.
Two members, to be designated by the City Council, shall be
appointed for initial terms to expire on December 31, 1973,
or until such time thereafter as successors are appointed by
the Council. Two members, to be designated by the City
Council, shall be appointed for initial terms to expire
December 31, 1974, or until such time thereafter as successors
are appointed by the City Council. Two members, to be desig-
nated by the City Council, shall be appointed for initial
terms to expire December 31, 1975, or until such time there-
after as successors are appointed by the City Council. One
member, to be designated by the City Council, shall be
appointed for an initial term to expire December 31, 1976,
or until such time thereafter as a successor is appointed by
the City Council. Upon the expiration of such initial terms,
successors shall be appointed for six year terms, or until
such times after the expiration of such six year terms as
successors are appointed by the City Council. Upon the
resignation of any member, the City Council shall appoint a
new member to serve for the balance of the term of such
resigned member. Any member absent from 3 consecutive regu-
lar commission meetings whose absence is not excused by vote
of a majority of the other members shall thereby be disquali-
fied to continue as a member of the commission, and the City
Council shall appoint a new member to Serve for the balance
of the term of such disqualified member, provided, the appoint-
ments made to existing membership on the commission for terms
411 of office pursuant to Subsection 1.18.196 (2) of the City of
Yakima Municipal Code prior to its repeal and the enactment of
this Chapter shall remain in full force and effect according
to the terms of office for which such appointments were made."
Section 2. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare
of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby declared
to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and
by the City Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, signed and approved this 1st day
of October, 1973.
