AN ORDINANCE relating to city personnel; authorizing assignment pay
for temporary assignments in the fire and police depart-
ments; specifying permissible use of sick leave for
death of a member of the family of a city employee;
amending Subsection 2.40.030 :B, (4) and Subsection
410 2.20.088 (e), and adding Subsection 2.20.088 (f) of the
City. of Yakima Municipal Code; and declaring an emergen-
cy.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Subsection 2.40.030 B (4) of the City of Yakima
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.40.030 Sick Leave.
B. Permissible Use of Sick Leave. An employee
eligible for sick leave with pay shall be granted such
leave for the following reasons:
(4) The death of a member of the immediate
family of an employee or employee's spouse. For pur-
poses of this sub - paragraph, the term "immediate
family" shall mean any husband, wife, parent, grand-
parent, child, grandchild, brother or sister. No
leave of absence in excess of three days for a family
death shall be taken by an employee unless additional
leave is recommended by the employee's department head
and approved by the appointing authority."
Section 2. Subsection 2.20.088 (e) of the City of Yakima Muni-
cipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.20.088 Special Assignment Pay.
(e) When any member of the police department is
temporarily assigned by the chief of the department to a,,
position in .a higher classification for a period of one
normal shift or longer, such member shall be paid at the
salary prescribed for the fifth step of the higher classi-
fication for the actual time so assigned. The amount of
payment for such special assignment shall be computed in
accordance with applicable provisions of Section 2.40.100
of the City of Yakima Municipal Code. The payment for any
such special assignment duty shall be subject to the
availability of department funds for such purpose."
410 Section 3. Subsection 2.20.088 (f) is hereby added as a new sub-
section of the City of Yakima Municipal Code and shall read as
follows:
"2.20.088 Special Assignment Pay.
(f) When any member of the fire suppression force of
the fire department is temporarily assigned by the chief of
the department to a position in a higher classification for
a period of six hours or longer, such member shall be paid
at a salary five percent above his current salary. The
amount of payment for such special assignment shall be
computed according to applicable provisions of Section
2.40.100 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code. The payment
for any such special assignment duty shall be subject to
4 the availability of department funds for such purpose.
Section 4. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare
of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby
declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter.
