AN ORDINANCE relating to Traffic, amending The City of Yakima Municipal Code Section
9 50 215 to address updated parking meter technology in certain City -
owned parking lots
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA.
Section 1 Section 9 50 215 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby
amended to read as follows
9 50 215 Parking fees for city -owned parking Tots
A. The following fees shall be paid by any person who parks a vehicle in a city -owned
parking lot (Lots 1, 2 and 4) Lot 5 is free at all times
0 -2 hours Free, with receipt described below;
One dollar an hour for each additional hour or part thereof;
Provided, that no person shall park a vehicle in such parking lot between eight a m and five
p m for more than an aggregate of two hours without paying the proper fee except on days
designated in subsection B of this section as exempt.
Every person parking in a city owned lot described in thiis section, that contains a meter
station, shall c, , fee sh he deposited upon arrival, obtain a receipt from thew meter
station in the parking lot and display the receipt on the vehicle dash, regardless of whether a fee
is required. The purpose of the receipt is to establish time of arrival, and if applicable,
demonstrate that the appropriate fee has been paid. A vehicle is presumed to be parked
overtime when a receipt is not displayed.
B The fee schedule in subsection A of this section shall be in force during the hours from
eight a.m and five p m , Monday through Friday, with the exception of the following holidays,
Saturdays and Sundays

Martin Luther King, Jr Birthday 3rd Monday in January
Washington's Birthday 3rd Monday in February
Memorial Day Last Monday in May
Independence Day July 4
Labor Day 1st Monday in September
Veterans' Day November 11
Thanksgiving Day 4th Thursday in November
Christmas Day December 25
Section 2 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect 30 days after its passage,
approval, and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter

SUMMARY EXPLANATION Earlier this year, the City began enforcing overtime parking in
certain City -owned parking lots The ordinance has always required that payment be made to
the parking meter The upgraded parking meters print a receipt and a sign posted by the meter
instructs patrons to display the receipt on the dash This added language addresses the
change in technology and clarifies patron's responsibilities
