HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/05/1980 Adjourned Meeting tiff- L JUNE 5, 1980 The City Council net in session on this date at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Hall, Yakima,' Washington. Council members present were Mayor Betty, L. Edmondson, Henry Beauchamp, Lynn Buchanan, Lynn Carmich- ael, Bruce Crest and Don Hinman. Council member Shirley Doty absent. Mayor Edmondson stated that this meeting was called to discuss a special industry that wishes information on ash. Dr. Hana Claus was introduced and he in turn introduced his associate, Garrett Summers. Dr. Claus gave a presentation of some of the articles his firm makes, some of which were made with the volcanic ash. Mayor Edmondson inquired if it would be cheaper to make those items using the volcanic ash and Dr. Claus answered in the affirmative, if it were made in Yakima. Dr. Claus elaborated on the products his firm manufacturers emphasizing that they use recycled products. Councilman Crest inquired about Dr. Claus' proposal for the City. Dr. Claus stated that they are here on a fact finding mission regarding location sites and business - licenses and permits. He stated he wants to set up a manufacturing plant in Yakima. Mr. Summers, Solar Research Engineer, spoke about the use of the ash in solar heating and roofing materials. Dr. Claus stated that he is asking first right to the ash. He stated that the ash should be put in piles about 4 to 5 foot in height and treated with his special coating. Councilman Hinman inquired if the City would be expected to purchase the coating and Dr. Claus answered in the affirmative. The coating costs close to $8.00 a gallon. He stated that he would have more information tomorrow. Willis Waite reported that there will be a demonstration of the coating of the ash at Chesterley Park at 1:30 p.m. There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at the hour of 2:50 p m.
