ORDINANCE NO 1272
AN ORDINANCE relating to traffic control; regulating the operation of
trucks and trailers in the core business district of the
City; prohibiting and regulating parking on certain
streets; and amending Section 9.56.070 and Subsections
9.75.040 (m) and 9.75.060 (b) of the City of Yakima`
. Municipal Code aid declaring an emergency.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA :
Section 1. Section 9.56.070 of the City of Yakima Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"9.56.070 Operation in core business district. For the
purpose of this section, the core business district is defined
as the area within the following boundaries:
The east curb line of First Street, the north curb line of
Walnut Street, the west curb line of Sixth Street and the
south curb line of "B" Street.
(a) No person shall operate a vehicle or combination
of vehicles, including but not limited to, a truck tractor
and trailer or semi - trailer attached, exceeding an overall
length of thirty -eight feet, except emergency vehicles and
passenger buses, in the core business district as defined
in this section, without obtaining authorization for such
411 operation from the chief of police.
(b) No person shall operate a vehicle or combination
of vehicles, including but not limited to, a truck tractor
and trailer or semi - trailer attached, over eight feet in
width, over twenty -four feet in length, or over twenty-
four thousand pounds gross weight except emergency vehicles
and passenger buses, in the core business district as
defined in this section between the hours of four p.m. and
six p.m. without obtaining authorization for such operation
from the chief of police."
Section 2. Subsection 9.75.040 (m), of the City of Yakima Munici-
pal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"9.75.040 Prohibited _parking at all times on certain
streets.
(m) Both sides of West Walnut Street from 1st Avenue
to 3rd Avenue and the north side of West Walnut Street from
3rd Avenue to the first alley west."

pal Code is hereby amended by adding thereto item (12) to read as
follows:

(b) Two hour parking:
(12) The south side of West Walnut Street between
3rd Avenue and the first alley west."
Section 4. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and wel-
fare of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby
declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
41 / immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, signed and approved this 14th day of
December, 1970.
