AN ORDINANCE relating to leaves of absence by city employees; estab-
lishing a basic work week and making exceptions thereto;,
providing for and regulating vacation leave; amending
Subsections 2.40.020 A and B; and Subsection 2.40.090 (a);
and adopting Subsection 2.40.090 (c) as a new subsection,
all of the City of Yakima Municipal Code; and declaring
41 1 , . an emergency.
BE IT. ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA :
Section 1. Subsections 2.40.020 A and B of the City of Yakima
Municipal Code are hereby amended to read as follows:

"2,40.020 Vacation Leave.
A. Rate of Accrual of Vacation.Leave.
1. Commencing July 1, 1971, each eligible.
employee _shall earn vacation leave at the rate of 6.7
hours vacation for each full calendar month of service.
2. Commencing July 1, 1971, each eligible
employee with five or more years of continuous service
shall earn vacation leave at the rate 8.0hours
vacation for each full calendar month of service.
3. Commencing July.1, 1971, each eligible
employee with ten or more years of continuous service
shall earn vacation leave at the rate of 10.0 hours
vacation for each full calendar month of service.
B. Accumulation of Vacation.: Commencing July 1, 1971,
• vacation leave may be accumulatedrot to exceed 192.0 hours."
Section 2. Subsection 2.40.090 (a) of the City of Yakima Munici- •
pal'Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.40.090 Work Week.
,(a) Commencing July 1, 1971,.the basic work week shall
be forty hours and the standard workday shall be eight .
. hours with the exception of the fire, police, transit and
parks and recreation departments and ems other f jobs
which require. special consideration by mutual agreement
between the employees and the appointing authority."
Section 3. Subsection 2.40.090 (c) is hereby adopted as a new
subsection of the City of Yakima.Municipal Code to read as follows:'
"2.40.090 Work Week.
(c) Commencing July 1, 1971, the basic work week for
employees of the police department shall be 40 hours and the
standard work day shall be 8 hours, provided, the Chief of
the Police Department may, at any time and at his discretion,
with the approval of the City Manager, schedule duty shifts
or work days so that certain employees designated' by the
Chief will work 10 hours a day, 4 days a week."
Section 4. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health, safety and welfare
of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby
declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
41 1 immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, signed and approved this 21st day of
June, 1971.
