YAKIMA
4th ofJULY CELEBRATION
2018 Report
It has been a privilege to serve on the 4'h ()fluty Celebration Committee and to be part of planning the largest free
family event in Central Washington. The 4th ofitily Celebration is made possible prirnarily through the financial support
of the City of Yakima,
Attendance was estimated at 30,000 with free admission and parking. Gates opened to the public at noon.
The day -long event offered something for everyone along with weather temperatures in the mid -80s. There were 14
concession stands with a variety of foods and a beer garden.
Back by popular demand was the 18* inflatable vvaterslide and an aerial fire truck, couftesy of the Yakima. Fire
Department. The designated children's area buzzed all day with featured free games, face painting, the educational Wenas
Manurioth display, Bricks -4 -Kids, a LEGO based educational exhibit, and a carnival with games, food, and rides.
For the second year there was an on -grounds pat ade thanks to the dedicated work of the Sunfair Parade
Committee. -Appletai1e2: Battle of the Bands" was a huge attraction IN ith 41 local artists competing niost of the day.
After more than 4,000 on-line votes. 12 acts were chosen to perform as finalists on the stage. The top three winners of the
soloist and band category each received cash prizes while the public enjoyed free, local entertainment. Thanks to the
financial support from the City of Yakirria and involvemerit tiif the Yakima Herald -Republic, this event was a success.
This year we contracted with a new fireworks company, Wolverine West, LLC from Chehalis, Washington.
I would tell you that we have received a multitude of good reviews for their choreographed fireworks show.
Financially 2018 was a success. Reserves of $5000 helped with deposits for 201 8's Celebration of fireworks,
marketing, and other start-up expenses.
An event of this size needs many partnerships for success and I would like to acknowledge Yakima Police
Depaftment and Yakima Fire Department who helped keep this community celebration fun and safe. WSDOT and
Washington State Police helped keep traffic flowing smoothly. Yakima Transit and Union Gap Transit offered free
rides to and from the fairgrounds. State Fair Park provided the fairgrounds, utilities, and resources to facilitate this event
at no cost.
The 4th of July Celebration reaches out to the community, provides a positive family experience, and adds to
our quality of life. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank you for funding this annual community event,
Sincerely,
Greg Stewart
