AN ORDINANCE relating to public services and utilities; specifying the
time within which water service charges are due and pay-
able; providing for the suspension of water service for
nonpayment of water service charges; imposing a reconnec-
tion charge; and amending Section 7.68.025 of the City
• of Yakima Municipal Code.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Section 7.68.025 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"7.68.025 WATER SERVICE CHARGES - WHEN DUE. (a) All
charges for water service shall be due and payable at the
office of the City Treasurer on or before the fourteenth day
after the bill therefor is rendered. Water service shall be
suspended to any premises for which the service charge re-
mains unpaid for a period of twenty -one days after the due
date, provided, no water service shall be suspended until
after written notice has been given to the consumer, at
least seven days prior to suspending service, that water
service will be suspended at a time specified in such notice
in the event the delinquent service charge remains unpaid.
When water service has been suspended for nonpayment of the
service charge, water service shall not be resumed until all
delinquent service charges have been paid together with an
• additional five dollars ($5.00) reconnection charge.
(b) In the event of a delinquency in the payment of
charges for domestic water service to any premises, the
City shall exercise a lien against such premises by dis-
continuing water service thereto and service to any such
premises shall not be reinstated until all delinquencies and
unpaid charges against such premises for water service, and
for cut -off charges, have been paid. Such lien shall not be
for more than four month's charges due or to become due, as
provided by law, and shall be exercised subject to the pro-
visions of Section 7.68.271 of this title."
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thir-
ty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law
and by the City Charter.
