AN ORDINANCE relating to . public health, safety and welfare; amending
Section 6.68.020 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code,
Penalty for Shoplifting Violation.
• BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Section 6.68.020 of the City of Yakima Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"6.68.020 Penalty for shoplifting violation. Any person
who engages in shoplifting within the City of Yakima shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor. Upon a first conviction therefor,
he shall be punished by a fine of not less than Fifty Dollars
($50.00) and not more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or
by imprisonment in the City Jail for not less than five days
and not more than six months, or both such fine and imprison-
ment. Upon each subsequent conviction he shall be punished
by a fine of not less than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or
by imprisonment in the City Jail for not less than thirty days
and not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprison-
ment. Convictions under the laws of either a state of the
United. States or of any municipal corporation within such a
state for either a similar or like offense shall be deemed a
prior conviction for the purposes of this section."
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided
by law and by the City Charter.
