AN ORDINANCE relating to administrative departments of the City of
Yakima; creating the Transit Department as a new depart-
ment; designating a department head; defining the duties
of 'such department; amending Section 1.18.100 of the
'City of Yakima Municipal Code; adding Section 1.18.195 as
a new section to the City of Yakima Municipal Code; and
declaring an'emergency.
• BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That Section 1.18.100 of the City of Yakima Municipal
•
Code is hereby 'amended to read as follows:
"1 LINE DEPARTMENTS. There shall be a Police
• Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Public
Utilities Department, Inspection Department, Municipal Air-
' Port Department, Civil Defense Department and Transit De-
partment."
Section 2. There is hereby added Section 1.18.195, as a: new sec-
tion of the City of Yakima Municipal Code, to follow existing Section
1.18.190 thereof, which new section shall read as follows:
"1.18.195 TRANSIT DEPARTMENT. The Transit Department
shall be under the direct supervision of the City Manager who
shall:
(1)' Operate and maintain a public bus transpOrtation system;
(2) Generally supervise the activities of the department;
0 (3) Appoint and hire a transportation consultant when
authorized by the City Council; and
(4) Perform such other duties as may, be required by law or
the City Council."
Section 3. This Ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the publ ic peace, property, health, safety and welfare
of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby declarec
to exist and this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediate
ly upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and
by the City Charter.
