HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-854 ORDINANCE NO. 854 AN ORDINANCE relating to City personnel; designating job classifica- tions and salary ranges for certain City positions; establishing the length of a work day and work week for certain City employees; authorizing special assignment and overtime pay; providing for and regulating sick leave; amending Sections 2.20.088(b), 2.20.088(d), ' 2.20.100, 2.40.030A(I), 2.40.090 and 2.40.100A(2)(c); and repealing Sections 2.20.090 and 2.20.095 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. That Section 2.20.088(b) of the City of Yakima Muni- cipal Code is hereby amended to read as fol lows: "2.20.088(b) When any employee, who is paid at an hourly rate, is temporarily assigned to a position in a higher classification for a period of one hour or longer, he shall be paid at the salary prescribed for the fifth step of the higher classification for the actual time so assigned." Section 2. That Section 2.20.088(d) of the City of Yakima Muni- cipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "2.20.088(d) Police patrolmen shall be paid twenty dollars per month in addition to their regular salary when required to supervise jail meal planning, food purchasing and to coordinate activities of other jail personnel; police officers shall be paid thirty dollars per month in addition to their regular salary when assigned the duties of Admini- strative Assistant to the Chief of Police." Section 3. That Section 2.20.100 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "2.20.100 CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND SALARY RANGES. The following classification plan and salary ranges, hereinbefore called salary ranges, shal I be in full force and effect January 1, 1967: (a) UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS (APPOINTIVE). Section 2,40.030A(I) of the City of Yakima Municipal • Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "2.40.030A(I) Sick leave with pay shall accrue at the rate of one working day of leave for each full calendar month of the eligible employee's continuous service with the City. Unused sick leave in any year shall be accumulative , for succeeding years to a maximum of one hundred twenty working days." Section 5. That Section 2.40.090 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "2.40.090 WORK WEEK. A. The basic work week for City employees shall be forty (40) hours and the standard work day shall be eight (8) hours, with the exception of the Fire and Transit Departments and some other few jobs which require special consideration by mutual agreement between the employee and the appointing authority. B. The basic work week for employees of the Transit Department shall be six (6) days. The standard work day for bus operators shall not exceed eight and one -half (8E) • hours, and the standard work day for all other Transit Department employees shall be eight (8) hours." Section 6. Section 2.40.IOOA(2)(c) of the City of Yakima Munici- pal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "2.40.I00A(2)(c) Fire Department personnel below the rank of Battalion Chief may be paid overtime at a straight time rate when called from off shift in order to maintain a minimum fire suppression strength as determined by the Fire Chief; and may be paid overtime at the rate of time and one -half when called from off shift because of a fire. Pay shall be computed by dividing each employee's basic monthly salary by 10 to arrive at a 24 hour shift rate and the hourly rate shall be computed by dividing the monthly salary by 173. Fractions of an hour served on overtime duty shall be rounded to the next full hour for the purpose of computing the amount of overtime pay." Section 7. That Sections 2.20.090 and 2.20.095 Of the City of • Yakima Municipal Code are hereby repealed in their entirety. Section 8. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect thir- ty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.
