AN ORDINANCE relating to City administration; providing for the • appointment of, and specifying the duties of, an Assist- ant City Manager, and enacting Section 1.18.015 as a new section to the City of Yakima Municipal Code. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section I. Section 1.18.015 is hereby enacted as a new section of the City of Yak ima Municipal Code, - to follow existing Section 1.08.010, which new section shall be entitled, and which shall read, as follows: "1.18.015 ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER - POWERS AND DUTIES. The City Manager may, within the limits of the annual budget adopted by the City Council, appoint an Assistant City Manager, or designate an employee of the City as such officer, who shall assist the City Manager in such manner as he may designate, and perform such other duties, for the benefit of the City, as the City Manager may direct. • Whenever the City Manager is unable to personally per- form the duties of his office due to disability or absence from the City, the Assistant City Manager, at no increase in salary, shal I serve as acting City Manager, and shall supervise and be responsible for the effective management and administration of City affairs and shal I be otherwise empowered with all the powers of the City Manager, except the power to appoint and remove heads of City departments and divisions, provided, however, that whenever the City Manager's absence or d i s a b i l i t y appears to the City Council to be of continuing duration, the City Council may, in its discretion, appoint some other City official or City employee to perform the duties of City Manager." Section 2. This Ordinance shal I be in full force and effect thirty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.
