AN ORDINANCE relating to stopping, standing and parking motor vehicles;
prescribing steps to be taken by a motorist upon leaving
an unattended motor vehicle, including the removal of
the ignition key therefrom; providing that the registered
owner of a motor, vehicle shall be prima facie responsi-
ble for certain violations; and amending Section 9.36.310
and 9.36.240, and repealing Section 9.72.170 of the City
• of Yakima Municipal Code.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Section 9.36.310 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"9.36.310 MOTOR VEHICLES LEFT UNATTENDED. No person
driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall leave it
unattended in a public place or on any used car or new car
lot, or parking lot, without first stopping the engine of
said vehicle, removing the ignition key from the ignition
lock thereof, setting the brakes thereon or engaging a
transmission locking device thereon, and when standing
upon a perceptible grade, turning the front wheels to the
curb or side of the street."
Section 2. Section 9.36.240 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"9.36.240 REGISTERED OWNER PRIMA FACIE RESPONSIBLE
FOR ILLEGAL PARKING AND CERTAIN OTHER VIOLATIONS. Every
® person in whose name a vehicle is registered shall be prima
facie responsible for any parking or angle parking of said
vehicle in violation of this code, and for any violation
of Section 9.36.310 of this code relating to motor vehicles
left unattended."
Section 3. Section 9.72.170 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code
is hereby repealed in its entirety.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thir-
ty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law
and by the City Charter.
