AN ORDINANCE relating to building regulations; adopting by reference
the Uniform Building Code, 1964 Edition, copyright 1964,
by the International Conference of Building Officials,
regulating the erection, construction, enlargement,
alteration, repair, moving, removal, conversion, demoli-
tion, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area and main-
• tenance of buildings or structures in the City of Yakima;
providing for the issuance of permits and collection of
fees therefor; providingpenalties for the violation
thereof; amending Sections 11.04.010, .020 and .030, and
adding Sections 11.04.040, .050, .060 and .070 as new
sections, all of the City of Yakima Municipal Code.
WHEREAS, R.C. W. 35.21.180 authorizes cities and towns within the
State of Washington to pass ordinances adopting by reference compila-
tions and codes relating to the construction of buildings, and ,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima has heretofore
examined and understands the scope and purpose of the regulations of
the Uniform Building Code, 1964 Edition, copyright 1964 by the Inter-
national Conference of Building Officials, and deems it in the best
interests of the city that such Uniform Building Code be adopted as
1111 the law of the City of Yakima, and
WHEREAS, three copies of such Uniform Building Code have hereto-
fore been filed in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Yakima
for use and examination bythe public, as required by law, now,
therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That Section 11.04.010 of the City of Yakima Munici-
pal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"11.04.010 ADOPTION OF UNIFORM BUILDING CODE. The
Uniform Building Code, 1964 Edition, copyright 1964 by the
International Conference of Building Officials, consisting
of Volumes I and III thereof of'which not less than three
copies each have been and now are on file in the office of
the City Clerk of the City of Yakima, is hereby adopted and
incorporated as fully as if set out in full herein, as the
building cock:: of the City of Yakima, except as hereinafter
amended, and the provisions and regulations thereof are
hereby adopted as the provisions and regulations of the City
of Yakima; and the several sections or numbers therein shall
constitute, and may be referred to as, the numbers of this
Chapter."
Section 2. That Section 11.04.020 of the City of Yakima Munici-
pal Cod is hereby amended to read as follows:

"11.04.020 AMENDMENT TO SECTION 204. Section '204 of
the Uniform Building Code, as applied to the City of Yakima,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
'SEC. 204. In order to determine the suitability
of alternate materials and types of construction and
to provide for reasonable interpretations of the pro-
visions of this Code, there shall be and is hereby
.created a Board of Appeals, consisting of five mem-
bers. All members of the Board of Appeals shall be
either an architect, engineer, building contractor or
a building material supplier. The Building Official
shall be an ex officio member and shall act as Secre-
. tary of the Board. The Board of Appeals shall be
appointed by the Mayor and shall hold office at his
pleasure. The Board shall adopt reasonable rules and .
regulations for conducting its investigations and
shall render all decisions and findings in writing to
the Building Official with a duplicate copy to the
appellant and may recommend to the City Council such
new legislation as is consistent therewith. "
Section 3. That Section 11.04.030 of the City of Yakima Munici-
pal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"11.04.030 AMENDMENT TO SUBSECTION 2305 (c). Subsec-
tion 2305 (c) of the Uniform Building Code, as applied to
the City of Yakima, is hereby amended to read as follows:
'SEC. 2305 (c) SNOW LOADS. Snow load, full or
unbalanced, shall be considered in place of loads as
• set forth in Table No 23 -B where such loading will
result in larger members or connections. When valleys
are formed by a multiple series of roofs, special
provisions shall be made for the increased load at the
intersections. The snow load for the City of Yakima is
thirty pounds (30 #) per square foot.'"
Section 4. There is hereby added a new section to the City of
Yakima Municipal Code to be numbered Section 11.04.040, to follow
Section 11.04.030, which shall read as follows:
"11.04.040 AMENDMENT TO SUBSECTION 2305 (e). Subsec-
tion 2305 (e) of the Uniform Building Code, as applied to
the City of Yakima, is hereby amended to read as follows:
'SEC. 2305 (e) SPECIAL - PURPOSE ROOFS. Roofs to
be used for special purposes shall be designed for
appropriate loads as approved by the Building Official.'"
S »ction 5. There is hereby added a new section to the City of
0 Yakima Municipal Code to be numbered Section 11.04.050, to follow
Section 11.04.040, which shall read as follows:
"1!.04.050 AMENDMENT TO TABLE NO. 33 -A - AVAILABLE
"SQUARE FEET PER OCCUPANT. Table No. 33 -A, entitled AVA1L-
ABLE SQUARE FEET PER OCCUPANT as that Table is contained
in Chapter 33 of the Uniform Building Code, on Page 313
of Volume 1 thereof, as applied to the City of Yakima, is
hereby amended to read as follows:

Sctin 6. There is hereby added a new section to the City of
411 Yakima Municipal Code to be numbered Section 11.04.060, to folluw

04„060 AMENDMENT TO SECTION 4501. Section 4501

Yakima, is hereby amended to read as follows:
'SEC. 4501. No pat of any structure or any
appencage thereto, except signs, shall project beyond
the property line of the building site, except as
specified in this Chapter, provided, that in the re-
modeling of existing commercial buildings, a maximum

of four inches (4") projection beyond the property
line, or the existing projection One, shall be
• allowed for the installation of new or different
facing materials.
Structures or appendages regulated by this
Code shall be constructed of materials as specified
in Section 1710 and Chapter 35.
• The projection of any structure or appendage .
shall be the distance measured horizontally from
the property line to the outermost point of the
projection.
No provisions of this Chapter shal I be construed
to permit the violation of other laws or ordinances
regulating the use and occupancy of public property."
Section 7. There is hereby added a new section to the City of
Yakima Municipal Code to be numbered Section 11.04.070, to follow
Section 11.04.060, which shall read as follows:
"11.04.070 AMENDMENT TO SUBSECTION 4506 (a). Subsec-
tion 4506 (a) of the Uniform Building Code, as applied to
the City of Yakima, is hereby amended to read as follows:
'SEC. 4506 (a). DEFINITION. AWNING is a movable
shelter supported entirely from the exterior wall of
a building and of a type which can be retracted, folded
or collapsed against the face of a supporting building.
Such awning or hood may extend over public property
not more than seven feet (7') from the face of a support-
ing building nor within two feet (2') of the curb lin'e
measured horizontally. •
Collapsible awnings shal I be so designed that they
shall not block a required exit when collapsed.
Collapsible awnings, unless cloth covered, shall
be designed for a vertical live load of not less than
five pounds per square foot, or greater if required
by the Building Official for publ ic safety.'"
Section 8. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thir-
ty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law
and by the City Charter.
