x. Laura we should offer specific steps, timelines, etc. to recommend to
council members so they can implement a lot easier
5. New Business
a. Discussion of what we envision as our next steps.
i. Tiffany: splitting into original research groups by objective, determining
interview questions for organizations, programs and individuals to list what
are the gaps in service. Ex: What are the 3 strategies we can implement for
improved sense of belonging? We should also research the work done by
other commissions to see if they can accomplish some of this work.
ii. Arthur: Interviewing organizations, staff members and doing surveys at
community events to discuss community integration. Asking the community
about what resources they use and whether or not they believe Yakima is
integrated. Offer three good outcomes per objective with cost analysis and
resources.
iii. Laura: Getting responses from community members about integration;
gathering input that is diverse and equitable. (Implemented in different
languages and places; online and in-person)
1. Committee is encouraged to conduct community survey(s) but should
not expect a lot of resources
iv. Brandy: Simple, general questions starting with the people who are around
us to start gathering different opinions.
1. We could recommend most effective methods for sampling. What's
the best way to conduct a survey? Too many Q's? Not the right
format? Need to be available in multiple formats? What's the best
way to survey a city?
v. Do we sub -divide by method (addressing organizations vs. individuals) or
objective?
1. Talking to organizations vs. talking to individuals. Laura stressed that
it's important that we don't just focus on organizations, which might
happen if we work inside of our objectives.
2. The Committee discussed brainstorming questions by objective, along
with survey best practices to discuss at our meeting on July 10. We
will then divide by method.
3. Sara recommends that we give a good starting point (tangible
activities) outline for the permanent committee.
b. Committee "Homework"
i. Brainstorm questions for a "survey" for individuals that have to do with your
objective assigned below.
