HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-563 ORDINANCE NO. ,6Z3 AN ORDINANCE providing for the submission to the electors of the City of Yakima, Washington, at a special election, of a pro- position of whether or not a tax of $200,000.00 or approximately 3.77304 mills in excess of the maximum tax levy specified by law shall be made on the taxable valuation of property within the City of Yakima, Wash- . ington, and the proceeds thereof used to acquire fire fighting and training equipment and facilities, includ- ing real property, for the City of Yakima Fire Depart- ment; and declaring an emergency. WHEREAS, it is deemed necessary and advisable that the City of Yakima acquire fire fighting and training equipment and facilities, including real property, for the City . of Yakima Fire Department, and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima lacks sufficient funds with which to acquire such equipment, facilities and real property and the City Council finds that an emergency exits and that it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City that a special election be held for the purpose of authorizing a special levy to obtain funds • in order to acquire such equipment, facilities and real property, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section I. That a special election be held in the City of Yakima on the 3rd day of November, 1964, in accordance with all applicable laws, for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the City of Yakima, for their approval or rejection, the question of whether or not a tax of $200,000.00, or approximately 3.77304 mills in excess of the maximum tax levy provided by law shall be levied on the taxable valuation of property within the City of Yakima, Washington, and the proceeds thereof be used to acquire fire fighting and training equip- ment and facilities, including real property, for the City of Yakima Fire Department. Section 2. That the ballot title of the aforesaid proposition shall be as follows: PROPOSITION Levy for Yakima Fire Department Shall a tax of $200,000.00 or approximately 3.77304 mills in excess of the maximum tax levy provided by law be levied on the taxable valuation of property within the City of Yakima, Washington, and the proceeds thereof be used to acquire fire fighting and training equipment and facili- ties, including real property, for the City of Yakima Fire Department, as provided by Ordinance No. passed September 14 1964, by the Yakima City Council. That the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to notify the County Auditor of Yakima County, Washington of the passage of this Ordinance, and to do all other things necessary in the time and manner required by law to the end that the proposition set out hereinabove shall be submitted to the electors of the City of Yakima, Washington, as aforesaid. Section 4. This Ordinance is one to provide for the immediate preservation of the publ ic peace, property health, safety and welfare of the people of the City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby declared' to exist and this .Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediate ly upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.
