AN ORDINANCE adopting a plan for longevity pay for a certain class of
employees of. the Police Department and Fire Department
of the City of Yakima; authorizing longevity pay and
adopting regulations and restrictions governing such
longevity pay; amending Sections 2.12.010 and 2.24.010,
and repealing Section 2.24.040, all of the City of
Yakima Municipal Code.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That Section 2.12.010 of the City of Yakima Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.12.010 LONGEVITY PLAN - ELIGIBILITY - RESTRICTIONS.
Those employees of the Police Department of the City of
Yakima who have been regularly and continuously employed
full time in said Department and who have completed periods
of service as hereinafter set forth, shall receive compen-
sation, called longevity pay, in addition to their regular
salary, according to the following schedule, to be paid on
the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July of each year:
Years Service Longevity Compensation
At least 5 years and less than 10 years; $ 5.00 per month
At least 10 years and less than 15 years; 10.00 per month
Fifteen years or more; 15.00 per month
Provided, that upon termination of employment of anyone
entitled to such longevity pay, such person shall receive a
longevity payment according to the above schedule, for the
number of months of eligibility served by such employee from
the date on which the immediately previous longevity payment
was made. Such payment shall not be made for fractions of a
month, and if termination of employment occurs on or before
the 15th day of any month, that month shall not be counted
as one for which longevity pay is to be made, and if termina-
tion of employment occurs after the 15th day of any month,
that month shall be counted as one full month for which
longevity pay is to be made.
Provided, further, that no such longevity pay shall be
paid to any employee who is discharged from employment for
disciplinary reasons, or who terminates his employment with-
out giving the Chief of the Police Department at least two
weeks notice of such termination."
Section 2. That Section 2.24.010 of the City of Yakima Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"2.24.010 LONGEVITY PLAN - ELIGIBILITY - RESTRICTIONS.
Those employees of the Fire Department of the City of Yakima
who have been regularly and continuously employed full time
in said Department and who have completed periods of service
as hereinafter set forth, shall receive compensation, cal led
longevity pay, in addition to their regular salary, according
to the following schedule, to be paid on the 1st day of Janu-
ary and the 1st day of July of each year:
Years Service Longevity Compensation
At least 5 years and less than 10 years; $ 5.00 per month
At least 10 years and less than 15 years; 10.00 per month
Fifteen years or more; 15.00 per month
Provided, that upon termination of employment of anyone
entitled to such longevity pay, such person shall receive a

Section 3. Section 2.24.040 of the City of YakiMa Municipal Code
is hereby repealed in its entirety.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty days after its passage, approval and publication as provided
40 by law and by the City Charter. •
