For Meeting of: August 18, 2026 ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing grant award modification for Office on Violence Against Women Fiscal Year 2021 Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative. SUBMITTED BY: Shawn Boyle, Chief of Police Chad Janis, Police Captain SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Approving Grant Award Modification GAM-626382 to the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Fiscal Year 2021 Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative (FTAP) grant award 15JOVW-21-GK-04706-HOMI, for modification to project period end date through December 2026. R-2026- A RESOLUTION approving Grant Award Modification GAM-626382 to the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Fiscal Year 2021 Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative (FTAP) grant award 15JOVW-21- G K-04706-H OM I. WHEREAS, the City accepted the 2021 OVW Fiscal Year 2021 Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative Solicitation in the amount $499,212.00 via resolution R- 2022-085 in 2022; and WHEREAS, the original award performance period was ending and in the interest of completing the project objectives, the Yakima Police Department requested a project period extension; and WHEREAS, the Department of Justice approved Grant Award Modification GAM-626382 to extend the project period to December 31, 2026; and WHEREAS, the City is in the process of applying for the OVW Fiscal Year 2026 Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative (FTAP) open only to current FTAP sites. If awarded, the new award would supersede the former, and, WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to approve the grant award modification with OVW for the receipt of the grant monies to support the FTAP project, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby approves the Grant Award Modification GAM-626382 to Grant Agreement No. 15JOVW-21-GK-04706-HOMI with the Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women for the Firearms Technical Assistance Project Pilot Sites Initiative.
