building and the Yakima Convention Center
SUBMITTED BY: *Bill Preston, Community Development Director

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded the city two grants under the Clean
Building Performance Grant program; one in the amount of $46,700 for the Public Works building and
one in the amount of $19,422 for the Yakima Convention Center. These funds will help cover costs
associated with energy audits for both buildings, a step towards compliance with the Washington's Clean
Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS). The CBPS aims to lower energy costs, reduce pollution, and
create jobs across the state. A Resolution is required to authorize the City Manager to accept the
awards; Commerce will then prepare the contracts.
