R-2026-113 authorizing the City Manager to accept Clean Building Performance Grant awards from the Washington State Department of Commerce for the Public Works Clean Building Audit and the Yakima Convention Center Energy Audit. WHEREAS, the City applied for Clean Building Performance Grant funding under the Audits for Public Buildings grant program for assistance in bringing the Public Works building and Yakima Convention Center into compliance with the Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS), a state law aimed at reducing energy consumption, lowering operational costs, improving indoor air quality, alleviating community energy burdens, and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector; and WHEREAS, the City received award letters from the Washington State Department of Commerce on June 11, 2026, conditionally awarding funds for the Public Works Clean Building Audit and the Yakima Convention Center Energy Audit; and WHEREAS, to receive the funds, the City Council must authorize the City Manager to sign the award letters on behalf of the City of Yakima so the Department of Commerce can begin the contracting process; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds it to be in the best interest of the City to accept the awards for the Clean Building Performance Grants; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAK MA: The City Manager is hereby authorized to sign the award letters on behalf of the City of Yakima, attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. These funds will help cover costs associated with energy audits for both buildings, a step towards compliance with the Washington's Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS). The CBPS aims to lower energy costs, reduce pollution, and create jobs across the state. A Resolution is required to authorize the City Manager to accept the awards; Commerce will then prepare the contracts.
