For Meeting of: May 5, 2026 ITEM TITLE: National Day of Prayer proclamation SUBMITTED BY: Vicki Baker, City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: At the April 14 meeting, Councilmember Byers presented a draft National Day of Prayer proclamation and requested that it be added to the May 5, 2026 City Council agenda to be read and presented. The motion passed unanimously. Attached for Council's consideration is the proclamation. If approved, Pastor Mark Grange is in attendance to accept the proclamation. ITEM BUDGETED: N/A STRATEGIC PRIORITY 24-25: RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: National Day of Prayer 2026 4 CITY OF TAKI M) T t O C L J 4 A ''I O WIPEUAS, on April17, 1952, the Congress of the united States approved the Joint resolution to provide for setting aside an appropriate day as a National Day of Prayer(Public Law 82-324;66 Stat. 64); and `G1 ialaf,S, the history of our nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in the lives of individuals and the nation; and 14 IfE AS, historically, our greatest leaders have turned to prayer in times of crisis and thanksgiving; and 14 IfE AS, the virtues of prayer reflect a common bond hopes and aspirations, sorrows and fears, remorse and renewed resolve, thanks and joyful praise, and love; and 14 rfE AS, Way 7, 2026 has been deemed by Congress as the National Day of Prayer, when allAmericans are to pray, in their own religious way,for the leaders of our nation, NOW, 2JlE EEOc, I, Watt Brown, 9l'tayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf of the Yakima City Councddo hereby proclaim Way 7, 2026 as a NATI°NAL DA T OE MATER° in the City of Yakima, in keeping with the wishes of the Congress of the `united States, I urge all residents to join me in this special observance.
