ITEM TITLE: Resolution setting the dates and time for open cruising events on
Yakima Avenue for the summer of 2026

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On March 3, 2026, City Council voted unanimously to direct staff to bring back a Resolution establishing
the following dates for Cruise the Ave events in 2026, with each event being from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00
p.m.: 6/13, 7/11, 7/18, 8/8, 8/15, and 9/9. The attached resolution corrects the date of 9/9 (Wednesday)
to 9/12 (Saturday).
This process to establish dates for cruising events is in accordance with Yakima Municipal Code Section
9.25.020 which states, "cruising shall be permitted by the public during an open cruising event on
Yakima Avenue Saturday evenings designated pursuant to resolution adopted by the city council from
time to time."

RESOLUTION NO. R-2026-
A RESOLUTION setting the dates and time for open cruising events on Yakima Avenue for
the summer of 2026
WHEREAS, Yakima Municipal Code §9.25.020 permits cruising Yakima Avenue for open
cruising events; and
WHEREAS, the ordinance stipulates that the Yakima City Council adopt a resolution
designating the dates of open cruising events; and,
WHEREAS, designating dates as cruise nights precludes any other special event permits
requiring closure of Yakima Avenue to be issued, ensuring that open cruising can occur; and
WHEREAS, there are no pending special event permit applications or permits for the
dates and times set forth herein; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the residents and the City
to designate six Saturdays as designated cruise nights, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
That the open cruise events are from 7:00 PM until 11:00 PM on the following Saturdays:
June 13, July 11, July 18, August 8, August 15, and September 12.
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 7th day of April, 2026.
