ITEM TITLE: Ordinance amending the Yakima Municipal Code Section 1.06.010

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
This reflects the Council's requested changes in meeting schedule. The changes allow for three
business meetings per month instead of two business meetings and one study session per month.

ORDINANCE NO. 2026-
AN ORDINANCE amending the City of Yakima Municipal Code Section 1.06.010 Meetings
of the city council.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is required to have a minimum of two city council business
meetings per month pursuant to the Yakima City Charter; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has consistently held two business meetings per month and
at least one study session special meeting per month wherein specific items on the agenda are
discussed; and
WHEREAS, the City Council would like more time for open discussion of issues at
meetings, and has an increase of business that would benefit from adding a regular business
meeting each month and eliminating consistent study sessions; and
WHEREAS, amending the municipal code would not prohibit the City Council calling
special meetings where necessary; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima finds and determines that amending
the number of business meetings held by the council to add a third business meeting is in the
public interest and best interest of the City and its residents; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. Section 1.06.010 of the City of Yakima Municipal Code is hereby amended
to read as follows:
1.06.010 Meetings of the city council.
A. Day and hour. Commencing on April 7, 2026, regular meetings of the city council
shall be held on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month. The meetings
shall convene at the hour of five-thirty p.m. for public business items, or at such other
times as may occasionally be designated by the city council.
B. Place of Meetings. The regular city council meetings shall be held at Yakima City Hall,
or at such other place designated by the city council from time to time.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect 30 days after its passage,
approval, and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.

1.06.010 Meetings of the city council.

shall be held on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month. The meetings shall convene
at the hour of four thirty p.m. for executive session and at five-thirty p.m. for public business
items, or at such other times as may occasionally be designated by the city council.
B. Place of Meetings. The regular city council meetings shall be held at Yakima City Hall, or at
