A RESOLUTION authorizing the City to accept a Municipal Stormwater Capacity grant from
the Department of Ecology.
WHEREAS, the City owns and maintains extensive stormwater infrastructure for the
collection, transportation and treatment of surface water runoff from rain and snowmelt; and
WHEREAS, the City's regulatory obligation with the Department of Ecology is in
accordance with the Eastern Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit and the
Underground Injection Control Program; and
WHEREAS, Ecology has awarded the City $120,000 in grant funds provided by the
State Legislature to be used for the Municipal Stormwater Capacity Grant (WQSWCAP-2527-
YakiWa-00194) program; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds are being provided by Ecology to assist communities with
compliance with the provisions of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
Municipal Stormwater Phase 11 Permit to improve and protect water quality; and
WHEREAS, Ecology has required the inclusion of a project specific planning and design
element for retrofit projects to include low -impact development techniques; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City of Yakima and
its residents to utilize the grant funds to offset current costs in conducting its stormwater
program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute the Municipal
Stormwater Capacity Grant Agreement with the Department of Ecology in the amount of One
Hundred Twenty Thousand Dollars ($120,000).
