RESOLUTION NO. R-2026-
A RESOLUTION encouraging the Washington State Legislature to focus on and act on the
legislative priorities during its 2026 session expressed by the Yakima City Council in this
resolution.
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
consi pursue focused reforms during its 2026 session to
equitably share tax revenue with cities and prevent cost shifting that undermines local
budgets and essential services; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
covisid-e-Fa-HA-aki -legislati-o-n-advance policies during its 2026 session to drive local
economic development by reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens and strengthening
incentives for small business growth; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
a -prioritize measures during its 2026 session to restore
enforceable standards, reduce repeat offenses, and provide local law enforcement with
usable tools to protect public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
)-14t +i-advance and implement policies during its 2026 session to
lower healthcare costs, expand access in rural and underserved communities, and remove
barriers that disproportionately affect smaller cities; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
— urlati-o+}s-oppose overly prescriptive and costly state
regulations, including certain carbon standards, that shift costs onto families,
businesses, and local governments while threatening core services; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council strongly urges the Washington State Legislature to
t t it n� t Helesness--prioritize practical, community based approaches to
homelessness that include enforceable standards for public spaces and tools to
address chronic and disruptive behavior while expanding access to housing and support
services; now therefore

Council strongly urges the Legislature to enact these priorities to strengthen local
authority, ensure fiscal responsibility, and restore public safety in order to promote
and protect the general health, welfare, and safety of Yakima residents.
