YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
AGENDA STATEMENT
Item No. i g A
For Meeting Of December 12, 2006
A resolution declaring automatic rifles, handguns and
equipment to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima
and the Police Department and authorizing their trade-in
through the sealed quote process.
SUBMITTED BY: Yakima Police Department, Sam Granato, Police Chief
CONTACT PERSON/1 LLEPHONE: Maria Mayhue, Buyer - 575-6094
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Yakima Police Department has 6 (six) automatic rifles and thirteen (13)
handguns with equipment, which are in excess to the Department's needs. Yakima
Police Department desires to offer the rifles and handguns for trade-in through the
sealed quote process, in conjunction with the purchase of new handguns and related
equipment. By Federal law, the rifles, (once traded in), can only be sold to other law
enforcement agencies. In addition, Yakima Police Department is requiring that the
handguns will only be sold to other law enforcement agencies, personnel or active
military. Funds realized from the trade-in will be credited to the new purchase.
Purchase of the new handguns and related equipment prior to the end of the year
2006 will save the Department approximately $1,300, as the manufacturer will be
raising prices in 2007.
