ITEM TITLE: Harvest Marching Band Festival proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the August 19, 2025 meeting, Council approved a motion to add a Harvest Marching Band Festival
proclamation to a meeting in October. Attached for Council consideration is the proclamation. If the
proclamation is approved, it will be read and presented to Steven Kessler.

WJPEcf S,for 24 years a group of volunteers has formed a committee to host a
performance festivalfor high school marching bands across Washington State; and
WJPE 4S, the festival named.Ifarvest Marching Band Eestival,featuring marching band
field shows at ZaepfelStadium on campus at Eisenhower.Ifigh School, is hostedfor one day
annually on a Saturday in October, and
WRIE AS, the festival is comprised of volunteers across the City of Yakima, parents of
Eisenhower.1-figh School Marching Band students, parents of AC Davis.l-figh School Marching
Band students, and many other community volunteers; and
WW�ERAS, through coordinated efforts of the committee, the festival provides a safe
environment for this year's 20 high school marching bands to perform, compete against one
another in separate divisions including Class,AA Class,AAA Class, and Open Class; and
WW!EAS, certified judges will.be in attendance to provide scoring on each band's
performances in areas including musical aptitude, coordination, performance, and high performing
bands will move on to finals to repeat performances a second time on the same day; and
WREWS, all proceeds will go to funding the Eisenhower.h-figh School Marching Band,
AC Davis ffigh School Marching Band and the fKarrest Marching Band Eestival to fund the
festival in future years,
NOW, 71-ETar 'OE, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of the
Yakima City Council, do hereby proclaim October 18, 2025 as

in the City of(Yakima and encourage all individuals with an interest in marching band and field
shows to purchase tickets and attend the performances which run from 8:30 a.m. until.8:00 p.m.
