ITEM TITLE: Overdose Awareness Day proclamation
SUBMITTED BY: Vicki Baker, City Manager
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the July 15, 2025 City Council meeting, there was a motion to bring forward an overdose awareness
day proclamation. Attached is the proclamation for Council consideration. If approved, the proclamation
will be read and presented to Kim Hitchcock and Jessica Espinoza.

WVEREAS, the City of'Yakima does affirm and acknowledge the harm and
hardship caused by drug overdose; and
I4 EREAS, we recognize the purpose of International Overdose Awareness
Day as remembering loved ones lost to overdose and ending the stigma of drug-
related deaths; and
W 7I E EAS, we resolve to play our part in reducing the toff of overdose in
our community, which claimed the lives of more than 144 'Yakima residents in
2024, together with countless more affected forever,• and
WVEREAS, we affirm that the people affected by overdose are our sons
and daughters, our mothers and fathers, our brothers and sisters, are deserving of
our love, compassion and support.
NOW THIEREEOc,E, I, Patricia Ayers, Mayor of the City of(Yakima and
on behalf of the City Council hereby proclaim August 29, 2025 as
"Overdose Awareness Day"
in the City of'Yakima in recognition of the international event on August 31st
