R-2003- 73 A RESOLUTION authorizing the removal of one Sycamore tree located in the City right-of-way at 24 Chicago Avenue, Yakima, Washington. WHEREAS, one Sycamore tree is currently located in the City right-of-way at 24 Chicago Avenue, Yakima, Washington; and WHEREAS, the current property owner adjacent to the City right-of-way at 24 Chicago Avenue and the City's Street Division has requested authorization to remove the Sycamore tree because it is has outgrown its planting site, has raised the sidewalk considerably, thereby damaging the gutter at said location; and WHEREAS, the City Arborist has reviewed the situation and the one Sycamore tree situated at said location does not meet the criteria of a dead, dying and/or diseased tree; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to grant permission to remove, at the City's expense, one Sycamore tree located in the City right-of- way at 24 Chicago Avenue, Yakima, Washington. Replacement of a smaller variety to be determined by the City Arborist, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City of Yakima Street Division is hereby granted permission to remove, at the City's expense, with replacement of a smaller variety to be determined by the City Arborist, one Sycamore tree located on City right-of-way at 24 Chicago Avenue, Yakima, Washington. ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THIS 20th of May 2003. ATTEST: City Clerk ms 2/7 r ary Place, Mayor MEMORANDUM To: Denise Nichols, Parks and Recreation Manager From: Randy Murphy, Parks Superintendent/Arborist Re: Tree removal at 24 Chicago Avenue Date: May 13, 2003 Received request to inspect Sycamore tree located at 24 Chicago Avenue. The adjacent homeowner wishes to have the tree removed. Upon inspection it was evident the tree has outgrown its planting site and has damaged both sidewalk and gutter. Wayne Deason, Streets Supervisor intends to replace both sidewalk and gutter upon removal. Since this tree does not meet our criteria of being dead, diseased or dying it will require Council approval for removal. The Streets Division will incur removal expense. This mature Sycamore tree has outgrown its small planting area, raising the sidewalk considerably. The Street Division would remove the tree at the City's expense. Replacement of a smaller variety would be determined by the City Arborist.
