WHEREAS, on October 1, 2001, a City of Yakima employee was in a two -vehicle accident with Micah Winet, the son of Terry and Kathleen Winet, and Terry and Kathleen Winet subsequently filed a damage claim with the City of Yakima on October 2, 2001, relating to the accident and to the damage to their vehicle, a 1993 Subaru Legacy; WHEREAS, the 1993 Subaru Legacy, VIN JF1BC6534PH606537, was damaged and not drivable, and on or about October 22, 2001, the City of Yakima paid the claimants for the vehicle and took possession of the salvage; WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has no immediate or foreseeable use for the 1993 Subaru Legacy, which is surplus to the needs of the City; WHEREAS, Northwest Auto Body has offered Six Hundred Fifty Dollars ($650.00) for the damaged 1993 Subaru Legacy, which is a reasonable price; WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to sell the damaged 1993 Subaru Legacy now rather than sell it at the public auction of City surplus equipment at a later date; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby declares the above referenced damaged 1993 Subaru Legacy to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima, and the City Manager, through Craig Nance of Zaremba Claims Services, is hereby authorized and directed to sell said 1993 Subaru Legacy, VIN JF1BC6534PH606537, to Northwest Auto Body, Yakima, Washington, for the sum of Six Hundred Fifty Dollars ($650.00), and without any warranty. Harvey, 575-6030 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: On October 1, 2001, a City of Yakima police officer was in a two -vehicle accident while on duty. On October 2, 2001, the owners of the other vehicle that was hit filed a damage claim with the City of Yakima, relating to the accident and to the damage to their vehicle, a 1993 Subaru Legacy. The 1993 Subaru was damaged in the accident and not drivable. On or about October 22, 2001, the City of Yakima paid the claimants for the vehicle, and took possession of the salvage. The City of Yakima has no need for the damaged vehicle. Northwest Auto Body has offered the City of Yakima $650.00 for the damaged 1993 Subaru Legacy. This amount has been recommended by Craig Nance of Zaremba Claims Service as a reasonable price. The sale for the vehicle is $650.00, in part because the vehicle was rebuilt prior to this accident. Funds realized from this money would be credited to the Risk Management Reserve Fund.
