WHEREAS, the City of Yakima owns 12 outdated portable metal basketball hoops which have no monetary value, are surplus to the needs of the City, and for which the City has no immediate or foreseeable use; and WHEREAS, the City has acquired 12 new portable basketball hoops which can be transported easily by pick-up, instead of having to be transported by heavy equipment; and WHEREAS, the United States Marine Corps, Company B, 4th Tank Battalion, has requested one of these basketball hoops be surplused and donated to their Reserve Training Center for recreational use by reserve soldiers; and WHEREAS, the City of Prosser has requested the balance (11) of these metal basketball hoops also be surplused and then donated to its Parks and Recreation Department for use in its annual sports festival and other events; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to donate these basketball hoops rather than keep them in storage since they are outdated, unwieldy and without monetary value, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby declares the aforementioned metal basketball hoops have no monetary value and are surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima, and the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to donate one of the said basketball hoops to the U.S. Marines Corps Armed Forces Reserve Training Center and the balance (11) to the City of Prosser for its Parks and Recreation Department.
